The 1963 self-immolation (suicide by burning) of Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc on the streets of Saigon. This event was captured by the world media and did much to expose the mistreatment of Vietnamese Buddhists by the Catholic regime of Ngo Dinh Diem.
